LateNightTinkerer HOLD YOUR HORSES. Freeze. Do not touch that keyboard.
You just said the magic cursed phrase: *"I have my old Windows SATA SSD, this new NVMe, and an external backup drive all plugged in right now."*
RULE ZERO of Diskpart combat duty:
PHYSICALLY UNPLUG EVERY SINGLE DRIVE EXCEPT THE ONE YOU ARE INSTALLING TO.
Do not trust `Disk 0`, `Disk 1`, `Disk 2`. Windows PE assigns disk indices based on controller enumeration order at POST. If your BIOS initializes the USB drive or SATA controller half a second faster on reboot, Disk 1 becomes Disk 0. The number of seasoned sysadmins I've seen nuke their primary backup drive with `clean` because of shifted disk numbering is in the triple digits.
Step 1: Shut down PC. Unplug SATA cable and external USB drive.
Step 2: Boot installer. Shift+F10.
Step 3: `diskpart` -> `list disk`. You should ONLY see one disk (Disk 0) and your USB installer.
Step 4: `select disk 0` -> `detail disk` (VERIFY the model name says Crucial P3).
Step 5: Only then do you proceed. And yes: `clean` obliterates the partition table. To Windows, your data is GONE.
