Shrink Volume taking hours. Is this normal?

I'm trying to shrink a volume in Disk Management, but it's been "calculating" for over an hour now.

It's a 1TB 7200 RPM SATA HDD with plenty of free space, so I didn't expect it to take this long. I'm afraid to cancel the process because I'm worried it might cause data loss, but I'm not seeing any progress at all.

Is it normal for Windows to be this slow, or is something wrong? Should I keep waiting or is there a safe way to stop it? Any advice?

mamzyz An hour is definitely too long. It's likely stuck on unmovable files (pagefile, hibernation, or system files). You can safely cancel it; it won't damage your data.
You can try disabling hibernation and moving the pagefile to another drive first, then shrink. Hope that helps.
